Casting off the Past

Casting off the Past

“I’m beyond grateful!”  said Belise, as tears of joy ran down her cheeks. She was delighted to receive her own sewing machine.

Belise had been one of the top students in the sewing class run by Together for Development, which uses these classes to empower women out of poverty and prostitution by equipping them with skills to run their own business – allowing them to support their families. Belise had learned quickly and was placed in a group with other women to start sewing and make a living. Unfortunately, it was extremely difficult for her, at such a young age to juggle the sewing with a two-month-old baby and sadly she had to leave the group.

We first met Belise 2 years ago, just 18 years old and pregnant at the time. She had lived a horrible childhood after being sexually abused by her employers. The sadness in her eyes reflected the deep wounds she had endured.

Ephraim, the founder of ‘Together for Development’ had followed Belise’s story since that time. She had attended classes to help her find a new life and learned to sew. She had worked so hard to turn her life around and her transformation was amazing to witness.

On behalf of Together for Development, Ephraim was happy to give Belise a sewing machine so that she could continue to support herself and her child in their new life. Each woman given this opportunity will be able to provide a far more stable and nourishing childhood for their little ones, bringing fresh hope for the next generation. Give thanks for the joy Belise has found, and the many more transformed lives she represents!
