Mizen 2 Malin!

Mizen 2 Malin!

GLO Supporter Billy loves a challenge and has completed various fundraising events over the past years! “I do love telling people about the great work of GLO in Burundi. Over the past few years, I have focused my fundraising towards its aims… raising great leaders to progress the poorest nation on the planet. This year I decided to do something I’d wanted to for some time… cycle the full length of Ireland, incorporate the best sights and sleep in a tent along the way!”

So Billy set off with his wife, Diane, in a support vehicle – ready to provide practical and moral support at any time! It was a big undertaking – cycling 510 miles in 5 days. They followed a route from Mizen head, the most southerly point through the hills Killarney stopping at the following towns, Tralee, Doolin, Westport, Ballyshannon, before arriving at Mizen Head; poking up into the North Atlantic at the top of Ireland.

Although the trip was a success, it wasn’t all plain sailing! “We had laughs along the way, and there were many; including our tent collapsing during a storm, the backup car stuck on a cliff edge and me being mistaken for Jimmy Nesbitt!!”

Billy’s monumental efforts paid off, with over £1000 raised for the work of GLO and it’s transformative work in Burundi. We’re so grateful to all who supported him. Billy gives thanks too: “It was a blast and thanks to my wife Diane, Elaine, who joined us for part of the journey, Derek and Rae for their support at the finish and all who contributed to my fundraising.” Well, Billy, from all at GLO – a big thank you to you!
